How does this PDF compression work?
Each PDF page is re-rendered in your browser and compressed as a JPEG image at a quality level you choose, then reassembled into a new, smaller PDF file.
Can I still copy text from the PDF after compressing it?
No. Since each page is compressed as an image, text in the compressed result can no longer be selected or searched. This works best for scanned PDFs, brochures, or documents that don’t need further editing — it’s not ideal for working documents where you still need to search or copy the text.
Is my PDF file uploaded to a server?
No. The entire compression process runs directly in your browser — files are never sent to any ToolkitMe server.
Why doesn’t the result shrink much for certain PDFs?
PDFs that are already dominated by plain text (rather than scans) tend to be small to begin with, so the savings from image compression won’t be noticeable. This tool works best on scanned PDFs or ones containing lots of images/photos.
